I also believe that the media blew the whole thing out of context. Oh well.. We'll just have to stick it to them on Nov 7th
Pot proponents fed up with other side's lies When I read "The disgrace on Capitol steps," the Oct. 28 News editorial, I was utterly horrified. As someone who attended the press conference in question, I would like to point out that the demonstrators for SAFER didn't start chanting until Attorney General John Suthers began to speak. This was because Suthers has been filling voters' heads with lies regarding marijuana for the last several months and they were sick of it.
Sure, it is his First Amendment right to freely express his views on marijuana, but Suthers is an elected official and therefore has a responsibility to accurately inform the public of the truth behind campaign issues, not to go around making biased, unfounded statements.
All of the speakers should be ashamed of themselves for making the claims they have made against marijuana. The Park County sheriff went so far as to claim that legalization of marijuana would lead to horrors which would rival the Bailey school shooting. No one can produce one legitimate study that correlates marijuana use with an increase in violence.
Until they get solid evidence to support their arguments, they need to stop filling the public's minds with lies.
